    How’s your plasma table business going buddy?

    • @WideVisionMetalFab
      @WideVisionMetalFab 8 дней назад

      We just got back from vacation, and the word my wife and I came up with while talking it about during that time to describe it is "unsustainable." Everybody has a plasma table now, so the market is flooded with people willing to do it cheaper and cheaper. The table is great for making pieces for repair jobs, (Such as the the chisel plow 3 point mount rebuild I did a while back.) but the market is too saturated to make a living from it full time. The profit margins are small, which means we have to do lots of volume. We are pushing the farm equipment repairs again. I've been thinking about making a video about the subject.

    I know this is 9 years old, but I was wondering if that 240 RPM was at the motor pulley or the chuck? I was also wondering how well this worked using the gear in the back to turn the lathe, compared to using belts? I just got a really old lathe, like around 1910 time frame, and I really don't like how much room the motor bracket and first belt cone of speed takes up behind the lathe, and an swapping the 240v motor for a 3.4hp 110v variable speed treadmill motor, and was thinking of just using the little back gear and shaft to turn the big gear behind the chuck, and was wondering if there were any reasons I shouldn't do this, before I start changing things too much and possibly wasting a bunch of time. As far as I can tell, I don't think there should be any issue with the small pulley on the new motor, turning a big pulley on the back gear shaft , which would turn the small gear at the other end that turns the biggest gear behind the chuck... Seems to me like it wouldn't be much different than the original setup, but might be a bit slower, which should be fine because this treadmill motor would turn a lot faster than the original motor would have... I'll keep watching the rest of the video, and also see if you post another one in your profile that might show you changing it to the belt and cones again, and hopefully comparing it then as well. Not many videos of people using the back gear shaft to drive their lathes unfortunately, but I suppose that would be because that's for really slow work, and not many people swapping their motors from what I saw on these old beasts. LOL

      Short answer is Yep! I also have another idea for a hydraulic foldout boom of sorts. My wanting to build either one of those is why I didn't just build this little roller as soon as I put on the winch years ago. In this video, I was going to talk about different ideas I have, but the video got too long and I cut it out.
